Website hosting fees are becoming more expensive every year. Hosting fees used to be reasonable, but the market has changed to where the first year is fine, but after that fees start to soar, and changing hosts frequently is a tedious and time-consuming process. And, unfortunately, the site ads aren't covering it, they're only worth fractions of a cent in most cases. If you can, please consider a small donation to PopApostle with the PayPal button below...any amount is appreciated. Thank you!

If donations are strong enough, I will eliminate the site ads.

DIDJA NOTICE?

On page 1 of the story, opening on the planet Remo, as they head for their nature study, Jord tells his son, "Say, there's that moon--the one that's going to pass real close to us," and his son responds, "My teacher says there are people on it." The people of Remo seem awfully unconcerned that an errant moon is suddenly passing through their solar system (with inhabitants yet)!

Somehow, the Alphans and the Remoians are able to speak the same language to each other.

At Jord's home on page 8 of the story, besides his wife and son, two young women are seen in the background hovering over Professor Bergman as he sits talking with Delke. The two are not identified in any way. Possibly they are two daughters of Jord and Deva.

On the last page of the story, the Alphans suddenly become aware that no more animal life exists on Remo, having all died off from hunters, starvation, old age, or loneliness. Helena tells Jord, "You overestimated how much time you had left." It seems unlikely a sophisticated civilization as seen on Remo could have been so unaware of the true depth of the conservation problem on its world that all animals could be declared dead in the span of a day!

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Did the Alphans consider making a home for themselves on Remo? Nothing is said about it. The Remoians seemed more-or-less peaceful and even allowed the Alphans to visit and do some kind of reconnaissance on their world. It seems logical to assume though that both the Alphans and Remoians would be hesitant about adding more people to a biosphere that was struggling (more than they even knew!) for natural resources.
